1 Legislative Consent Memorandum on the Skills and Post-16 Education Bill - consideration of the draft report
1.1 The Committee considered the draft report.
Due to reporting timescales the Members agreed to consider the
final amendments electronically.
2 Priorities for the Children, Young People and Education Committee - strategy for engaging with children and young people
2.1 The Committee considered the strategy for engaging with children and young people.
2.2 Members agreed to hold face to face focus
groups with children in primary school settings and to meet with
young people from different youth organisations from around
Wales.
3 Consideration of the approach to Committee strategic planning
3.1 The Committee considered the approach to strategic planning.
3.2 Members agreed to hold the strategic planning sessions over the course of two meeting, the first of these would take place on Monday 18 October; and the following meeting to be held in the New Year to enable the Committee to take account of the engagement with children and young people.
3.3 Members identified what they would like to focus on during the sessions.
4 Consideration on the Committee forward work programme
4.1 The Committee noted the forward work
programme.
5 Introductions, apologies, substitutions and declarations of interest
5.1 The Chair welcomed Members to the meeting.
5.2 Apologies were received from Laura Jones MS, there was no substitute.
5.3 There were no declarations of
interest.
6 General scrutiny session with the Minister for Health and Social Services, Deputy Minister for Social Services and Deputy Minister for Mental Health and Wellbeing
6.1 The Committee scrutinised the Minister and Deputy Ministers.
6.2 The Minister for Health agreed to provide the following:
- the ‘deep dive’ reports that the Essential Services Steering Group has undertaken into specific areas to identify the extent to which essential services had been maintained during the pandemic;
- a note including data on the various kinds of vaccination programmes for children and young people;
6.3 The Deputy Minister for Mental Health and
Wellbeing agreed to provide further detail on the progress being
made to improve children’s health across a range of public
health issues.
7 Papers to note
7.1 The papers were noted.
8Motion under Standing Order 17.42(ix) to resolve to exclude the public from the remainder of the meeting and for the whole meeting on 18 October
8.1 The Motion was agreed.

9.1 The Committee considered the evidence they had heard in the previous evidence session.
